Kamp Katrina
(USA, 2006, 74 minutes)
A documentary on the rise and fall of an improvised New Orleans refugee camp set up by a Ninth Lower Ward resident for people left homeless by Hurricane Katrina and eventually wrecked by drugs, alcohol and despondency. Intriguing but unsuccessful documentary whose unflinching and urgent treatment of important subject matter is undone by its amateurish edges that make it look more like a rough cut than a finished film.
A Carnivalesque Films production. Directors, cinematographers (colour), Ashley Sabin, David Redmon; music by Eric Taxier; film editors, Tim Messler, Ashley Sabin, David Redmon.
