Beowulf

(USA, 2007, 115 minutes)

In pre-Christian Denmark, an arrogant warrior accepts to release the kingdom from a pillaging monster. Spectacular and thoughtful but rather dull adaptation of a medieval saga, made in digital animation traced over live-action performances by a star-studded cast; the clever script is undone by the artificiality of a procedure that makes little sense in these days when a real actor can be inserted flawlessly into a virtual set.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents in association with Shangri-La Entertainment an Imagemovers production. Starring Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich, Robin Wright Penn, Brendan Gleeson, Crispin Glover, Alison Lohman; and Angelina Jolie. Directed by Robert Zemeckis; produced by Steve Starkey, Robert Zemeckis, Jack Rapke; written by Neil Gaiman and Roger Avary; music by Alan Silvestri; director of photography (DeLuxe, widescreen), Robert Presley; production designer, Doug Chiang; costume designer, Gabriella Pescucci; film editor, Jeremiah O'Driscoll; visual effects supervisor, Jerome Chen.
