De Profundis

(Spain/Portugal, 2006, 79 minutes)

An illustrator lost at sea is led by a mermaid he has drawn in his paintings into the mysterious underwater realm he has long dreamed of. Unusual animated fantasia where the story is told entirely through the painterly visuals (roughly animated from paintings and drawings) and with a continuous music score replacing all dialogue, but in need of a stronger plot to sustain interest through its length. An intriguing but not entirely successful oddity.
