THE BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS

USA
2009
120 minutes

A drug-addicted New Orleans detective investigating the drug-related murder of an immigrant family finds himself getting deeper and deeper into trouble and addiction. Not so much a remake of Abel Ferrara's 1992 cult classic Bad Lieutenant as a totally different story that shares a thematic resemblance but nothing else, this eccentric police procedural fits right into its director's filmography but also in a long line of Hollywood left-of-centre potboilers, with a star performance from a lead whose work had become far too mainstream for his own good.
