MISTÉRIOS DE LISBOA

Portugal/France
2010
266 minutes

In 19th century Lisbon, an orphan boy discovers the truth about his birth and finds himself in the middle of a series of romantic intrigues. Sweepingly old-fashioned melodrama used as an excuse for a stylized but utterly sincere meditation on the nature of storytelling and man's love of stories very much in line with its director's work; length is surprisingly not a problem. The film was shot simultaneously as a six-hour television series.
