The Wind That Shakes the Barley

(Ireland/Great Britain/Germany/Italy/Spain, 2006, 126 minutes)

In 1920 Ireland, two brothers are caught up in the fight for Irish independence from Britain. Absorbing but ultimately unsuccessful activist period piece that straddles a thin line between politics and melodrama and never finds the right balance. Production values and performances equally excellent.
