Angel-A

(France, 2005, 87 minutes)

A smalltime Parisian crook contemplating suicide rescues instead a stunning blonde girl from drowning in the Seine, but she turns out to be an angel come to Earth to help him. Ravishingly filmed fantasy whose whimsical, Wings of Desire-ish premise and paper-thin script are rescued by engaging performances, dazzling visuals and a wonderful lightness of touch that stops it from going overboard.
