The Banquet

(China/Hong Kong, 2006, 129 minutes)

In medieval China, a young prince is summoned back from retreat to avenge the death of his father at the hands of his own uncle. Luxurious but hollow pageant of oriental opulence loosely based on Shakespeare’s Hamlet, with the plot stifled by the rich, breathtaking visuals.
