Elizabeth - The Golden Age

(USA/Great Britain/France/Germany, 2007, 114 minutes)

At a delicate point in her reign, with the Catholic king of Spain sending out the Invincible Armada to defeat her after the Catholic pretender to the throne of England is beheaded, Queen Elizabeth I may have found the man of her life in dashing sea captain Walter Raleigh. Unwittingly hilarious sequel to 1998's Elizabeth that is really no more than a 1940s bodice-ripper in disguise, updated with baroque, hysterical visuals and wasting a fine cast.

A Universal Pictures release. Universal Pictures and Studio Canal present in association with Motion Picture Zeta Produktions a Working Title Films production. Starring Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush, Clive Owen, Rhys Ifans, Jordi Molla, Abbie Cornish; and Samantha Morton.
