Au revoir les enfants

(France/Germany, 1987, 104 minutes)

At a French boarding school during WWII, a Parisian boy becomes intrigued by and finally befriends a latecomer who turns out to be a Jew in hiding. Stark, emotionally charged memoir that refuses easy sentimentality and whose strong autobiographical resonance touched a chord with critics and audiences.
